Waste

Waste… our society in general has no concern about waste. That’s the term we assign to the needless consumption of the natural resources we take from this planet that we humans have come to believe belongs to us, simply because we have grown to such a population level that we have all but totally overrun the poor thing.

Needless waste drives me crazy. When exiting the mall yesterday, I found a advertisement flier on my windshield. I looked around and saw all the cars around me had them. It made me wonder how much time was wasted placing all those fliers on those cars. How many chemicals were used to create the color ink that was printed on them. The electricity used to run the machines used to create the bits of sturdy paper the ink was printed on. The coal burned to generate that electricity. The fuel used to drive the machines that cut down those trees. And finally, most importantly, the trees that had their lives taken from them when they were chopped down and crunched up into itty bits just to create that ridiculous little flier. That ridiculous flier that many probably wound up on the ground littering that mall parking lot.

What is it for? Why do we destroy entire forests, just to print a little flier that probably meant nothing to anyone in the parking lot that day. I know more then a few were annoyed that those fliers were there, but I fear is it too optimistic to hope that it would be for the same reasons. Someone show me wrong.

Here is something I know about war: somebody wins, somebody loses, and nothing is ever the same again.
